(From: P.N. Boratav)

As I was looking this way and that a man hit me and knocked my head off. My head went off to the wood bazaar to sell onions and garlic. I ran after my head and caught up with it. “You’re my head” I said.

“I’m not your head” it said and we got into a fight. We tussled. We bustled. We ended up at the judge’s door.

The judge wasn’t home. He was up in a nearby tree picking lentils. My head and I went there. From the top of the tree he shouted at us. He was hard to hear. He said:

“Your case is a big one. Bring me forty sheets of paper and forty bundles of pens. Then find me a ladder with forty rungs so that I can get down from here.”

We went and got forty sheets of paper. We fetched forty bundles of pens. We searched for a ladder with forty rungs, found it, and brought that too. We set the ladder against the lentil tree. As the judge was climbing down, a rung suddenly broke.

The judge died. And my head returned to me.
